Description

The Austin Wine Merchant is seeking a positive, motivated, detail-oriented Wholesale Specialist & Spirits Buyer to join our team purveying the finest in wine, spirits, beers, gifts and accessories to our retail and wholesale clientèle for coming on 30 years.

Job Description:
• Primary customer-facing salesperson for our spirits business both retail and wholesale (restaurants, bars, private clubs, etc.).
• Fill wholesale orders in a knowledgeable, courteous and efficient manner via e-Mail, telephone and in-person interaction.
• Maintain close contact with key wholesale clients to understand their menu changes / menu cycles to match stock inventory carefully.
• Place supplier orders for the spirits, bitters, vermouth and mixers product lines in coordination with ownership and senior staff.
• Assist with checking-in / loading-in incoming product orders into the shop.
• Evaluate new products from suppliers with ownership for possible shelf stock items.
• Potential (if passionate about these product lines) to lead the curation and ordering of our beer, cider and sake collection for the shop.
• Be an integral part of the team keeping our shelves stocked, inventory organized and customer orders delivered to their car on request.
• Learn by doing - expand your knowledge of spirits while on the job through discussions with teammates and tasting opportunities.

Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexibility to work some Saturdays preferred.

Hours:
Full time, that is, 5 days / 40(ish) hours per week. Some overtime may be available, especially during peak business periods.

Skill requirements:
• Detailed knowledge of spirits - major types, distillation processes, stylistic differences. (We invite you to peruse our spirits selection on the web at theaustinwinemerchant.com)
• The job requires energy and repeated lifting of boxes that can weigh 40 pounds or more (the weight of a single case of wine or spirits).
• Proactive, self-starter personality.
• Attention to details & organization - we work hard to satisfy client requests and keep our shop and shelves neat and tidy.
• Ability to work and complete tasks in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment.
• A positive attitude and passion for the product and your work.
• Proficient computer knowledge (Windows, Excel, Gmail, Google Apps) and typing skills (a lot of our client interaction is by e-Mail).
